Monkeez was created in August 2009 by Gretchen Wood in Appleton Wisconsin.
When my job ended and I was faced with the decision to look for something new or to find a creative way to stay at home, I chose to try and stay at home. As a mom of four, I started designing a lot of these products for our family as a way to save money and to keep us living healthy while producing little waste. The patterns are constantly being improved and revised, both from my own use of them, and also from the feedback that I receive from customers. In just a few short years Monkeez has
grown from an idea into a small International company... families from around the
world are enjoying the products that I designed for my kids, and
we think that's pretty cool!
The price of Monkeez products reflects the quality and cost of the fabrics and materials that I have chosen to work with along with the cost of labor... I feel blessed that sewing has opened
up this opportunity for me and my family and am thankful that there are so many people willing to support a small business like mine! All of the work has been designed by me and most is handmade by myself in my sewing studio here in Appleton, WI. Any work that is hired out is done so for fair wage compensation and typically the work is done by other women working from home.
I strive to use as much organic, natural, sustainable materials as possible to create useful, high quality, adorable, reusable items for you and your family to use. These products are NOT mass produced factory made items. Due to the nature of the business, the constantly fluctuating prices and availability of fabrics and materials, variation among print placement, color options, and being handmade... I consider everything sold to be a one of a kind, uniquely made product for each and every order that comes through. My customers are valued... and at Monkeez, it's not just business, it's personal. ;-)
